The Community Visitors Scheme supports volunteers from our community to visit residents in local Commonwealth subsidised aged care homes. The Scheme aims to enrich the quality of life of residents who are socially isolated or lonely and would benefit from a friendly visitor. The focus is on 'one-to-one' contact, with volunteers visiting their 'special friend' at least once each fortnight. Activities might include chatting and reminiscing, playing games or going outings.Community Visitors are supported with regular get togethers and training in areas that help them to understand and relate to their resident. WOULD YOU LIKE TO VOLUNTEER WITH THE COMMUNITY VISITORS SCHEME?The first step is to either phone or email to find out more about the Scheme. Or, if you think that this is just what you’ve always wanted to be a part of, print off the Application Form, fill it out and post back to us. We will give you a call and arrange an orientation date. The orientation will take about an hour and a half and will cover everything you need to know about your role as a Community Visitor. Please be aware that we must complete a Criminal Record Check before you can start visiting. This is fully organised and funded by the Scheme. We will then organise to show you around the facility and introduce you to the resident. Just remember, you will always have the support of the service Co-ordinator who will be available to answer and question and help you settle in to your role. |
