Manning No-Interest Loan Scheme (Manning NILS) is modelled on schemes that have been operating elsewhere for over 20 years. It enables people on low incomes to purchase household appliances, furniture, and medical equipment in a way that avoids the debt-trap of other forms of credit. Manning NILS is an alternative form of credit, not emergency relief, and we only lend to people who are able to repay a loan without it causing financial pressure. |
The money for loans comes from donations and grants. As people repay the loans, the money goes back into the loan pool for other people to borrow. The LOCAL community benefits, as well as LOCAL businesses. Everyone that takes part helps other people, as well as improving the quality of their own life. You can also borrow again six months after you've repaid your previous loan. |
People who:have lived in the council areas of Greater Taree, Great Lakes, or Gloucester for at least six months, andare receiving a Centrelink payment or are on a low income, andcan afford to repay the loan in fortnightly repayments.
